Education is a human right, a public good, a public responsibility and the most powerful force in our hands to ensure significant improvements in health, to stimulate economic growth, to unlock the potential and innovation needed to build more resilient and sustainable societies.  Unfortunately, children’s access to education can be limited by  numerous factors. 

In a constantly evolving world, outdated and worn-out textbooks and learning materials are often shared by six or more students.  Workbooks, exercise sheets, readers, and other core materials that help students learn are sometimes available in short supply.  Teachers are in need of materials to not only help prepare lessons but to also share them with their students. 

Founded by 2-time Iraq War veteran and Buchtel Alumni (class of 1994) Mary Anderson, the West Akron 5k was founded through her love for and dedication to the very school and community that poured into and nurtured her.

In partnership with United Baptist Church and its ministries along with the Gus Johnson Community Foundation, Inc. it is our goal to unite the community in a spirit of wellness and philanthropy while raising funds to benefit all children who are a part of the Buchtel Cluster of students.
